Corn Planting Moon
is the Sixth Moon Cycle of Truth. The
Lesson is to Speak the Truth. When we
learn the truth through the Stories of the Ancestors; embracing in our Heart
their Wisdom, it is our duty to communicate this by Speaking the Truth. It may be done by writing a book, in
ceremony, or through teaching what you have learned. It is our way of giving back to Creator, by
sharing with future generations.
I was born under
the Corn Planting moon in the month of June.
Deer has always been my guide and as a youth, I followed deer trails
through the woods pretending I was a deer.
However, it was when I met Chief Leon Shenandoah, Tadodaho of the
Iroquois Nation, that I began following the New Pathway of Peace and the
mystical Deer was my guide. Chief
Shenandoah wore the antlers of authority as the modern-day Peacemaker and Peace
Chief who guided me on the pathway to finding my roots by learning stories of
the Ancestors, and Native American wisdom teachings of the 13 Original Clan
Mothers. In gratefulness to Chief
Shenandoah and to Creator, Mother Earth and all my relatives, I am now speaking
the truth through Ceremony, Teachings, and writing books. Though shy and
challenged in childhood to speak my truth, it is through these Wisdom Teachings
found on the Medicine Wheel that I have grown spiritually to understand who I
am, and my purpose to help the Earth at this time.
This is the last
moon of the East Gate Direction on the Medicine Wheel. People born under the Planting Moon have Moss
Agate as their Mineral Totem, Yarrow is their Plant totem and Deer is their
animal totem. Their colors are White
and Green. They are of the Butterfly
Clan whose element is AIR.
The Clan Mother of
this Moon is Listening Woman; Mother of the Stillness and inner knowing, keeper
of discernment and introspection and interpreter of messages from the spirit
world. The counselor and advisor. She teaches us how to enter the Stillness
and hear our heart’s still small voice.
She teaches how to listen to the inner knowing we carry in our spiritual
essences. And how to understand body
language and unspoken thoughts. How to
listen to the voices and opinions of others and the voice of the
Ancestors.
When you
experience this Moon Cycle of Truth, you will learn abilities to be more
sensitive, fast moving and appreciate the beauty found in all life forms. You will learn an expanded world view;
embracing with respect all life and all perspectives. Deer people have such high energy that it can
raise the energy of people around them; they make good friends and will
encourage you and help you through any life difficulties by opening up to them
and to life. Deer people genuinely like
people and will try to make their friends feel better. Like their stone the
Moss Agate and their Plant, Yarrow, they are healers and have a gift of helping
people see everything more clearly.
Being of the Butterfly clan, Deer People tend to flit from one thing to
another, yet because they are born during the season of planting, ideas are
grounded.
ANIMAL
TOTEM - DEER
Deer people are clever,
resourceful and creative. They are most compatible with Raven and Otter people
of their Clan and with Red Hawk and Sturgeon of the Thunderbird Clan. Their
complement is Elk people. The deer demonstrates the beauty of grace and quick
movement. This position teaches about beauty in yourself, in others, and in
your environment and teaches about your own healing abilities. This position
will point out any cutting edges in your personality, the necessity of
balancing time and energy, and your ability to create. People experiencing the
deer position need to learn to be more consistent, less mysterious and more
willing to show some of their own deep feelings
PLANT TOTEM –
YARROW
The yarrow plant
teaches about both cleansing and strengthening. “One of the best-known uses of
yarrow historically was reducing the bleeding from serious injuries and battle
wounds. It’s perhaps this usage that gave way to the plants’ numerous nicknames
including soldier’s woundwort and the nosebleed plant. There are many naturally
occurring chemical compounds in the plant that have likely led to its numerous
medicinal uses. Yarrow contains salicylic acid, sterols, isovaleric acid,
bitters, tannins and coumarin just to name a few. These constituents are the
catalysts behind yarrow tea benefits that have been celebrated for hundreds of
years”.
Yarrow tea
benefits are acquired through brewing dried leaves of the plant. A typical yarrow tea recipe involves steeping
a teaspoon of dried herb in one cup of freshly boiled water for about ten
minutes, most find it best enjoyed in herbal tea recipes when sweetened with
honey or flavored with lemon.
According to Sun
Bear, the whole plant can be used medicinally as a tonic and strengthener. Used as a blood cleanser, it’s an herb that
helps eliminate toxins, as a diuretic it opens pores and cleanses through the
skin. It’s known for stopping bleeding
and is a good herb to use to relieve menstrual cramps. Yarrow is an all-around healer for the body;
relieving insect bite itch, toothache, and bronchial tubes. If this is your
totem plant be sure to find it growing wild in most areas of the
northeast.
MIN
ERAL TOTEM –
MOSS AGATE
The moss agate
stone teaches people in this position to clearly see their link with the
mineral and plant kingdoms. Moss Agate grounds you, corrects left-right brain
imbalances and stimulates creativity. Spiritual and metaphysical properties aid
abundance and attract nature spirits.
Used to assist planting and gardening, this gemstone’s appearance is
white with green color like moss.
ELEMENT AIR -
BUTTERFLY CLAN
Butterfly Clan
people are like the butterfly, always changing and shifting, like their element
air. They are always in motion;
physically, mentally and emotionally, and like the air they have power to
transform the things around them. The
energy of life blows through them; wind is their power bringing them
inspiration, and new ideas, new thoughts.
As the wind carries them higher and higher, they sometimes dwell in the
ethers where they intuitively work with Creation for transformation of a better
people world. Butterfly clan people enjoy helping other heal and transform
lower energy to a higher vibration.
